Celebrating the Advent of Modern Spiritualism

The month of March holds deep significance within the Spiritualist community, as it marks the anniversary of Modern Spiritualism on March 31, a date recognized worldwide as Hydesville Day—the moment in 1848 when the Fox Sisters’ famous spirit rappings sparked a movement that would circle the globe. This day is often embraced as a World Spiritualist Day, honoring the origins of our philosophy and the enduring truth of spirit communication. March also invites us to reflect on the contributions of early pioneers who shaped the path we walk today. Among them is Andrew Jackson Davis (1826–1910), often called the “John the Baptist of Modern Spiritualism,” whose visionary teachings helped lay the foundation for the movement’s philosophy and foretold the rise of the Fox Sisters’ mediumship. As we welcome the renewal of spring, March becomes a time of remembrance, gratitude, and spiritual renewal—celebrating both our history and our continued journey toward greater light.
